About CSS

Customs Science Services, Inc., is a customs consulting firm & commercial testing laboratory. We have an office in Potomac, Maryland, and an 850 square-foot laboratory facility in Bethesda, Maryland. CSS was founded in 1989 and has been providing scientific advice and lab analysis services to the international trade community ever since. Among its clients, CSS numbers twenty - two (22) of the 100 largest U.S. industrial corporations ( Forbes ) and about 150 smaller companies. Also, CSS provides scientific support for a number of customhouse brokers and customs attorneys.

CSS staff have over 50 years combined experience in "customs" consulting and lab testing.

Recent Projects

Develop a "Due Diligence Database" of the HTS classifications and FDA Product Codes of all drugs, excipients, research substances, etc., for a pharmaceutical company.
"Tariff Engineer" a line of athletic shoes to eliminate foxing-like bands, and "Tariff Engineer" a line of women's fashion sandals to qualify them for 6% duty instead of 37.5%.
Analyze material content of photo frames to confirm a housewares importer's Bill-of-Materials to establish 35% GSP value-added.
Analyze multiple shipments of men's knit socks for fiber content to confirm label and to classify under the correct quota category.
Test "water resistance" of multiple samples of four styles of jackets under AATCC Method No. 35 to refute U.S. Customs lab tests and avoid an import duty rate advance.
