How do I run the Footwear Decision Pyramid©?
Here are step-by-step instructions for running Customs Science Services’ Footwear Decision Pyramid©:
1. Click the red “My Account” tab or the “Client Login” button.
2. Enter your User ID and Password (case sensitive).
3. Click the link “Footwear Decision Pyramid©”.
4. Review the Qualifier Questions carefully. Then click the link “Proceed to the Footwear Decision Pyramid©”.
5. Fill in the “Style Name/No” box (required field) and the other boxes (optional).
6. Click the “Continue” (right arrow) button in the lower right corner.
7. If you can identify the “Material of the Upper”, click the appropriate button and then either hit “Enter” or click the “Next Question” (right arrow) button in the lower right corner. If you’re not sure of the answer, skip Point No. 8 and jump to Point No. 9.
8. Keep “drilling down” through the Footwear Decision Pyramid© by answering each question. (Each question depends on the answer to the previous question, so be absolutely sure that your answers are correct. Review your answers frequently in the right panel “So Far You Have Answered”.) When you’ve answered all the questions, the Footwear Decision Pyramid© will tell you that “We have enough information to classify the footwear”. Scroll down this “Answer Page” to see what your options are, and jump to Point No. 10 for an explanation of each option.
9. If you’re not sure of the answer to any question, click the link “Not Sure? Don’t Know?” This will open a new window onto a “plain English” explanation of the question; see FAQ No. 2 for a discussion of this “Help” feature. To browse this Help feature, click the link “View all ....” If you still cannot answer a question (perhaps because you need a lab analysis?), exit the Footwear Decision Pyramid© without charge by clicking either link to “Contact Us” for phone or e-mail assistance, or “Send Us a Sample” and we’ll take it from there.
10. Your options will be to: (a) Get the footwear’s HTS classification & duty rate; (b) Escape the drill-down without charge and start over; or (c) Save your answers to the drill-down in your account but defer charges until you complete it. Choosing the “HTS Classification” option will (a) Give you the footwear’s HTS classification and U.S. NTR duty rate; (b) Generate an International Footwear Information Document© for the footwear (see FAQ No. 3); (c) Save the drill-down and IFID© in your account; and (d) CHARGE YOUR ACCOUNT the appropriate fee.
11. Then either click the link to “Start a New Footwear Decision Pyramid©” or click the “LOG OFF” tab on the Home Page to log off our web site, including our Decision Pyramids ©. All completed and incomplete drill-downs that you did today will be saved in your Account.
